It’s official: we have had our first positive case of Canine Influenza Virus (H3N2 and H3N8 virus) in Washtenaw County! The virus can be spread rapidly with direct contact (kissing, licking, nuzzling, playing), cough/sneeze, contaminated objects (dog bowls/toys/door knobs and clothing) and people.
The same canine Influenza outbreak originating in Chicago in 2015 appears to have reappeared in Toledo, OH.
Months have gone by since we first heard of the canine influenza outbreak in Chicago. At A2AH we want to continue to provide you with current information about what veterinarians and scientists are continuing to discover about the virus.
As of 4/4/2015, there have been more than 1000 reported cases of dogs sick with canine influenza in Chicago. So far, Ann Arbor Animal Hospital has not seen a case of canine influenza, but we expect Chicago's problem will be here soon.
