Is my dog at risk for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases?

Tick season is in full swing in Washtenaw County, and the Ann Arbor Animal Hospital is pulling a lot of ticks off of dogs right now. The biggest concern with these parasites is Lyme disease, and this past year individuals have contracted Lyme disease from local ticks without leaving the county.

It's turning out to be another crazy year for one of the little vampiric and potentially disease-carrying pests of the Michigan spring and summer.

How to deal with ticks

Unlike places like Tennessee and Kentucky where ticks are always a problem, Michigan has seasonal explosions of ticks. How can we help our pets deal with them?
