With the scorching days that we’ve seen this summer, we just want to offer a gentle reminder to all of our readers to not leave pets unattended in a parked car. Even with the windows partially opened, on a hot day the temperature inside the car can quickly get well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit; such temperatures can cause heat stroke, which can lead to seizures and kidney failure.
A good approach is to never leave an animal in a closed automobile (or other unventilated enclosure like a garage) for any length of time in hot weather above 75 degrees, but try to put yourself in the animal’s place: if it would be too hot for you, it’s too hot for the animal.
For more on overheating and other summertime concerns, see this post we did last year.
