According to the American Humane Association, only about 17% of lost dogs and 2% of cats are ever recovered from shelters and returned to their original owners. Fortunately, the likelihood that your companion is reunited with you can go up greatly with a small piece of technology.
Hopefully most pet owners are aware of microchip identification for their pets. But even if your pet has an implanted microchip, it might not help him be returned to you if the information contained on the chip isn’t current. That’s why August 15 is “Check the Chip Day” and we encourage everyone to check out the Check the Chip Day website for info on how to verify that your companion has up-to-date information on their microchip. It could make the difference between heartache and a happy reunion!
